I run this site so I get to feature my LAN first! Alright? Got a problem with that? Wanna fight about it?
LG: This week we get to have a chat with Josh Dick, operator of Lynchburg Area Gamers out of Lynchburg, Virginia. Give us a little more insight in to LAG, nice name btw for a LAN.
JD: Thanks, LAG was made up by one of our members and it has stuck for 17 events. We have been around since 2003 and average about 30 gamers per event. LAG has had an event as big as 75 though that was a combination of PC, Console, and Magic the Gathering. LAG tries to accomindate for anything gaming related.
LG: What games are normally played? Tournament?
JD: LAG will play just about anything. Usually the trend has been the newer the better. Flatout 2 has been great fun along with the norms; UT2k4 and CoD2. We have played it all though. Counterstrike is pretty much no existant at LAG. That game has been played out and I am glad to see it gone.
LG: Do you think games like CS and WoW have declined attendance at LAN Parties?
JD: I think WoW is responsible for a little bit of it, but that's just gaming evolution. LAG was greatly affected by the WoW wave but there are always other gamers that do give WoW a break and just come to play something else but then there are WoW players that come to LAG and WoW all day. Doesn't matter, just as long as they are happy. But you would think that with CS and WoW played so much that it would become less popular but then the arguement comes out that what else is there to play and to me that is a good arguement. In the past couple of years, PC gaming declined, just no new interesting or original games. I'll quote someone from our last LAN while playing CoD2 since taking a break from WoW...."It's still the same game..." I think with M$ pushing the Games for Windows and the Live service upcoming that PC Gaming is on the turn around for the better of LANs.
LG: When do you expect to have your next event?
JD: I'm not sure really. Lynchburg recently was fortunate enough to have a gaming center open. I hope to work with them about LAG moving in to a new home. I am not sure but I sure would like to retire from event setup. lol!
Thanks to JD at LAG for the interview. This will be the first of many featured LANs to come. Stay tuned!
