Nintendo can now be entered into the record books as having it's Nintendo DS sell 100 million units faster than any other console. Combined sales of the DS, DSlite, and the DSi reached this amazing number in 4 years and 3 months where the original gameboy took 11 years and 2 months to do the same, and Playstion 2 came in second taking 5 years and 8 months to get there.
Nintendo's new inovations in gaming and ease of use have always kept them competitive despite the fact that hardware in their systems may not be as advanced as their rivals. Tapping into alternative gaming audiences really seems to be paying off for them. "We are grateful that people of all ages continue to respond to our products, and we will continue to look for ways to please current gamers and create new ones." says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.
So how does Nitendo celebrate these amazing sales figures? By hiking up the price of the Wii in the United Kingdom. Recently Nintendo announced that they will be raising the consoles retail price by 18-20 GBP from the current price of 179.99 GBP. This increase is being blamed on the continueing depreciation of the British Pound. This hopefully will not set a trend in the gaming market in England or anywhere else for that matter.
